Carissa Boeckmann Signs with Portuguese Club Benfica Feminino

The TMJ Athlete and Texas native joins Benfica from NWSL club Portland Thorns  

 September 6, 2025 (Fort Worth, TX) – TMJ Athlete and up-and-coming American player Carissa Boeckmann has signed with Benfica Feminino in the Campeonato Nacional Feminino, the top women’s football league in Portugal. 

“I am so thrilled to be joining a legendary club like Benfica. I can’t wait for what this new chapter has in store for me,” stated Carissa. “I’m grateful for the opportunity to learn, grow, and give everything I can to the club. So excited for what’s ahead!” 

The 22-year-old midfielder began her professional career earlier this year with the Portland Thorns. Boeckmann also played with USL W League side Tampa Bay United, scoring ten goals and providing 5 assists as Tampa secured a flawless 12-0 regular season record and a spot in the Southern Conference Final.  

Before that, she excelled in the collegiate soccer scene with Florida State University, starting all 21 matches to support the Seminoles’ ACC Conference Championship victory and clinch a #1 seed in the NCAA DI Tournament. She also played with Texas A&M, contributing to the team’s consecutive SEC Tournament appearances in 2022 and 2023 and the 2023 NCAA DI Tournament.
