The newly signed Portland Thorns player joins an exclusive roster of star-studded women footballers from around the world as part of the unveiling of the new boots.
February 5, 2024 (Fort Worth, TX) – Deyna Castellanos, otherwise known as Queen Deyna, became one of six women footballers chosen by Nike to represent the next generation of players who are leading the women’s game to participate in the launch of the third edition of the Nike United Collection.
Nike United is a collective of six of the very best women from Nike Football and features Tiempo, Phantom & Mercurial shoes designed by each of the players.
Alongside women’s football stars Sophia Wilson, Lauren James, Naomi Girma, Patri Guijarro and Salma Paralluelo, Deyna Castellanos shared insights and participated in the design process of these new purple boots, a fresh new colorway that represents their power and ambition and is paired with the classic Volt nod to Nike’s DNA and long-lasting pursuit of disruption on the pitch.
“I think the exposure that we have right now is something that has helped the sport for sure. And not just football, but in women’s sport in general – it could be even bigger, and I think we’re gonna get there,” stated Deyna.
Following an impressive career marked by global impact, Deyna Castellanos continues to lead the path alongside with Nike. This collaboration marks another significant step in Queen’s Deyna commitment to co-creating her future and advancing the landscape of women’s football, redefining the game and empowering the next generation.
“Being with Nike’s Athlete Think Tank has been an amazing experience every time because everybody has the confidence and encouragement to speak their mind about how women’s sport needs more support. You learn from everybody’s path and everybody’s past and future and it’s something that, that is just very inspiring.”
Deyna was accompanied to the product photo shoot by TMJ’s Founder & Principal Agent, Guillermo Zamarripa:
“Deyna is someone that has pushed the boundaries around the sport, cared about the sport and will shape what it will become for future generations,” Guillermo Zamarripa said.
“The tenacity I’ve seen from her on the international and club level is exactly what brought about this important partnership with Nike and helped the relationship evolve to a place where Deyna can tap into Nike’s product innovation to create initiatives that improve the women’s game. To see her achieve this level of status by having her own boot, it’s really a dream come true – for her, for Venezuela, for Latin America, for TMJ and women around the world.”
Alejandra Blasco who serves as Women’s Football Senior Advisor for TMJ and whom has been part of Deyna’s management team added:
“Working with her for so many years, to see her grow and become a professional soccer player and seeing her be in such an important campaign – how many times have Venezuelans witnessed the best soccer players from around the world take part in Nike’s incredible campaigns? Today, Venezuelans get to experience their captain being part of history.”
Queen Deyna will now take the field in her newly designed and personalized PHANTOM boots, made for precision in passing and scoring. She recently signed with the Portland Thorns in the NWSL after one season with Bay FC. The Portland Thorns will kick off their NWSL season on March 15th.
