September 6, 2026 (Fort Worth, TX) – TMJ is proud to announce the transfer of Mexican National Team Captain and TMJ Athlete Rebeca Bernal to Manchester United Women of the Women’s Super League in England, becoming the first Mexican women player to play for Manchester United.

The Tampico, Mexico native joins Manchester United on a three-year deal after playing with Washington Spirit in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) since February of 2025. Rebeca made noise early into her time with the Spirit, converting a penalty during her debut match for the team in the 2025 Challenge Cup and securing her first trophy.
Bernal has since been a regular starter, helping the team make it to the 2025 NWSL Championship last year. With the Spirit, she played in 20 matches, accumulated over 1400 minutes, and scored three goals across all competitions.
Prior to playing in Washington, Rebeca Bernal started her professional career in Mexico with CF Monterrey Femenil, or Rayadas, in 2017 when the league first formed. Her strong tenacity and loyalty to her teammates made her captain and fans quickly made her a household name as she went on to win four league titles in Mexico, including historic back-to-back trophies during the 2024 calendar year. Despite being a defender, Rebeca was also a reliable goalscorer in Monterrey, netting an impressive 66 goals for the club and solidifying herself as the defender with the most goals in the club’s history.
On the international stage, Rebeca has played for Mexico across all levels, including the youth squads during the 2014 FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup and the 2016 FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup. She debuted with the senior team in 2017 and was one of the key players that led Mexico to win its first-ever Gold Medal at the 2023 Pan American Games. She helped make history in 2024 with Mexico’s second ever victory against the US Women’s National Team during the Concacaf W Gold Cup tournament and earned herself a Best XI spot for her strong performance.
